Reminders for NIRA Members
- RODEO ENTRY - It is not your coach’s responsibility to make sure you are entered in each rodeo. However, if your coach normally handles the entries and you are not going be sure he/she knows that. Performances & Positions are Random drawn. NO special consideration is given for classes, rodeos, or other school or personal events. Trades are allowed at $25 per rodeo. Be mindful of others conflicts and trade if someone asks and you can, you may need a trade one day as well.
- FINES… read both regional and national rulebooks. They are on the websites. Fines can be given by Judges, rodeo secretary, event, student, and faculty director.
- NO PARENTS IN THE ARENA, which includes alley, front and back of chutes, roping box and behind it, arena fence etc. If in doubt, ask someone or just stay out.
- CALLING SECRETARY - No parents or contestants are to call the rodeo secretary, unless they are rodeoing independently.
- DRESS CODE - Full dress including proper vest when in the arena (see #3 for what constitutes arena). This includes 1 hour prior to start of a performance. Full dress includes: long sleeve shirt with collar; boots; western hat; & vest. No tennis shoes, hey dudes, deck shoes, flip flops, and no caps.
- VESTS - All competitors must wear a proper vest. Rough stock riders should wear one over their protective vest. No tape can be used. School name on front lapel and in larger letters on the back.
- PATCH PROGRAM - If you are being sponsored and wearing advertising you must register it with NIRA and pay $25.00. If you are going to wear sponsor patches on sleeve or collar, you must register them with the NIRA. Forms are on the college rodeo website.
- ANIMAL ABUSE will not be tolerated, major fines involved. There is always someone looking with a camera. We must protect our sport.
- APPROACHING JUDGES - Never approach a judge to question a call, go through the event, student, or faculty director.
- NON-CONTESTANTS IN ARENA - Only NIRA members can push cattle or help pull riggin etc. Coaches can help with rough stock but cannot push cattle. Friends that are not NIRA members cannot be in the arena & that includes back of the chutes. It is a liability issue for the NIRA and the school putting on the event.
- RESPECT!!! Coaches, judges, rodeo personnel, contractors, rodeo secretary.
- DELAY OF RODEO - We want all of our events to be run efficiently. BE READY AND KNOW WHO YOU FOLLOW IN YOUR EVENTS.
- NO ALCOHOL IN ARENA or STANDS. MANY PLACES LIKE at the HILL THE ARENA IS ON CAMPUS. NO ALCOHOL ALLOWED PERIOD.
- ENTRY FEES - Pay all fees before competing in the first event. Cash only. CONTESTANTS ONLY CAN PAY FEES AND PICK UP WINNINGS (not parents)
- RODEO OFFICE – Only Coaches, Contestants and Working Personnel are permitted in the rodeo office.
- RODEO GROUNDS - Keep all trash picked up around your trailers- no littering!! BIG FINE!!
- DAYSHEETS are for coaches, stock contractors, working personnel and event directors only! If you or your parent would like a daysheet they may be printed out after Tuesday on the week of the rodeo.
- POST – event order, draw, scores/times, and important messages are posted be sure to check the post area.
- STALLS & HOOKUPS – the secretary does not take payment for stalls and hookups.
Beginning in the fall of the 2022-2023 season unlimited trades will be offered for $25 per rodeo for the person requesting the trade.
Office charge will increase to $30. All fees (men's and women's will be $70 per event.
Special preferences will no longer be allowed for any reason, including school, conflicting rodeos, weddings, special events, etc.

Fines have been turned in to the National Office after the Athens Rodeo. All fines must be paid in order to compete at the first fall rodeo. To pay your fine, please mail check or money order made payable to Rodeo Secretary at 325 CR 2361, Bagwell, TX 75412. Must be received no later than two weeks prior to the rodeo to be cleared with the National Office.
